Mission Possible

Dear Trinity Wilmette community members, friends and associates.

Save the date: Wednesday, May 21, 7:00 p.m.

Trinity Wilmette needs your input.  As we all know, we are in a time of significant change. In our country and across the world, congregations are experiencing changing patterns of attendance, membership and giving. While this is happening, our communities and neighborhoods are also undergoing change. Within the context of these many changes, congregations are asking: How do we serve our wider community? How do we stay rooted in our tradition, and adapt to changing context? How do we rediscover a renewed identity and purpose?

As we consider these theological questions, there are more immediate challenges. How can we generate enough income to survive the next years?  How do we provide for the future of our congregations? How can we best use our buildings and land? Our spaces were designed for a congregation that no longer exists. How do we redesign our spaces for the current needs of the congregation? How can our space better serve the broader community?

In late 2024, Trinity Wilmette’s Good Futures Team was formed. The purpose of the team is to explore creative ways of fulfilling Trinity Wilmette’s mission and purpose, find new forms of generating income and develop new, sustainable ways of using its land and buildings.

The Trinity Wilmette Good Futures Team has canvassed the community and the Trinity Wilmette congregation, asking for input about needs as well as opportunities to serve the church and its surrounding community. The team has done a comprehensive review of Trinity Wilmette’s assets and capabilities.

As we move forward with this creative endeavor, we need your participation.  Our next step is a large-group, brain-storming session on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. called Mission Possible. The more knowledge, interests, experience, creativity and investment available for the process, the better the outcome. The kind of innovation we anticipate could result in additional or different uses of space. It is possible that these new uses might impact the ways you have used or currently use the space.

Here’s a video that explains the Mission Possible game.

We hope that not only individual Trinity Wilmette members and constituents will attend Mission Possible but also people who have attended a special event and “stakeholders” and representatives of community groups that rely on the church’s facilities.  If you are part of a group that uses the facility, please plan to attend and bring your board members as well as other members of your group.

Change is inevitable; survival and progress are not. Be part of Trinity Wilmette’s future as we move forward with discipleship forged with creativity, sacrificing what is comfortable and rediscovering our giftedness.
